Caribbean - Virgin Gorda - Katitche Point Greathouse

PDF Print E-mail

Katitche Point Greathouse, completed at the turn of the millennium, is among the most beautiful and spectacular holiday homes in the British Virgin Islands.  Built by the renowned British architect Michael Helm, whose buildings are often featured in Architectural Digest magazine, this property is yet another masterpiece of superb design.

Situated on the west side of Virgin Gorda on a rocky outcrop directly above the sea between Mahoe Bay and Pond Bay, the villa offers breathtaking ocean views over Sir Francis Drake Channel with views over the Caribbean sea and the Atlantic Ocean.  From the villa's own infinity swimming pool, you can look across crystal-clear turquoise blue shimmering water to Tortola and the neighbouring Dog Islands.

Katitche Point Greathouse is made up of a series of structures on different levels and includes the pyramid shaped main house, four wonderful large double room suites, and an even more spacious master bedroom.

All four suites are identical in size and furnishings and each has a private shaded verandah with lounge chairs and breathtaking sea views. Floors and bathrooms feature coral sandstone, showers with fitted benches, toilet, bidet, hand-crafted teak beds, a spacious closet, AIWA CD, individual furniture and accessories.

The separate master bedroom suite can be rented in addition to the four other suites; it is located a short distance away from and slightly above the other buildings, with its own panoramic views. The master suite has a large bedroom with sitting area, spacious bathroom complex, plus an additional kitchenette. It features a large terrace with a koi pond, an open-air shower and an "Open-air soaking tub" sunk into the rocks.

The pyramid-shaped main house, visible from far offshore, is eleven meters (34') high and offers space for social gatherings as well as reclusion on three levels.

A professional kitchen meeting the most exacting standards, comfortable English couches, a BOSE stereo system and a teak dining table seating up to 14 people are located on the lowest level. A chef can be engaged if required. An adjoining utility room includes a laundry area and bathroom, which can be used by visitors sleeping in the upstairs gallery.

A staircase takes you to the Gallery on the second floor with library, wide-screen TV and four comfortable loungers which can be made into additional beds.  One side overlooks the dining and living area while the other has big windows to bring in light and allow views of the sea and Virgin Gorda.  Guests will find the Gallery a special place to relax, play games, and watch videos.

A steep steel ladder allows access to the very highest point of the villa and you will find the "Crow's Nest" at the top of the pyramid on the third level, an ideal vantage point to observe the star-studded night sky.  Big pillows are scattered here and there; a hammock allows for peaceful escape, and large windows cantilever out for wonderful views of the surroundings.

The spacious, all-round terrace of the main house with its breakfast corner and hammocks leads past the pool bar directly to the pool deck.   The amazing horizon pool, 10 meters in length and 6 meters in width, blurs the outlines between pool, sky and the sea. A wet bar, with seating, is adjacent to the pool area and has an ice machine.

Through the inner courtyard with its palm trees, past an unusual sculpture by Jörg Siegele of Germany, you will reach the four suites and separate master bedroom complex.

Guests have three nearby beaches to enjoy. Mango Bay Beach is a 5 minute walk down the hill, or you might prefer to drive there: the palm lined, glimmering beach is protected by colorful coral reefs perfect for swimming, snorkeling and fishing. Kayaks and canoes are available; hours can be spent snorkeling the protected reefs in calm waters.  Beautiful Pond and Savannah Bay beaches are only a 5 minute ride away.Goggles and flippers are provided free of charge for our guests. Scuba diving, day sails through the many island of the BVI, and shopping trips to Tortola can be arranged.

The neighbouring Mango Bay Resort, rich in tradition, provides comprehensive service and a full-day room-maid and a gardener who looks after the pool, the garden and the area surrounding the house.
