Mahé, the main island of Seychelles, is absolutely one of the most amazing and extraordinary in the world.
The largest island of the Seychelles covers roughly an area of 150 sq.km. and most of the population of the Seychelles (75,000 inhabitants) live on this island. This is why Mahé is the showcase of the archipelago's lively Creole traditions and its interesting history.
Although Mahé is the main island, it is ironically the least known. Yet it offers some inspiring experiences for those who are able to appreciate and love it. Even when it rains, there is always some spot in Mahé where it is sunny: generally, all you have to do is go to the other side of the island to find pleasant weather...
Mahé is a paradise for walkers in search of unique surprises. You will often find yourself walking alone along the marked mountain paths that cross a flamboyant landscape in the heart of a pure environment.
Visitors can stay at the Craft Village, visit the Creole Institute, explore Victoria (the capital of Seychelles, with its well-known port and clock tower, an exact replica of Big Ben), walk along paths cutting through luxurious vegetation, observe the spectacular fauna and, of course, enjoy the famous beaches with sand as white and fine as talcum powder…
Each of its 70 beaches has a different character: ideal for swimming and snorkelling, there are long beaches such as Anse Marie-Louise or many small beaches, some of which you can call your own at times. And considering its mountainous interior with lush vegetation, it is small marvel that the island’s original name was "Ile d’Abondance".
Like a pearl lying on the deep blue jewel box of the Indian Ocean, enjoy its palette of subtle colours, ranging from the turquoise blue of the transparent sea to the emerald green of its luxuriant vegetation, with the glowing amber of its fine sandy beaches in between.
